Hello, my name is Ugur. I am the

at Ottoman Robot.

Ottoman Robot is the motion design and animation studio of Ugur Ozkardesler, and that is the only sentence written in third person on this page.

Phew! With that out of the way, here’s what you should know about me.

The Name

My name is Ugur. Pronounced “Or.” I was born in Germany, raised in Istanbul, and I have been based in the Washington DC area for years. I have lived between cultures my whole life, and somewhere along the way I built a career out of finding the unexpected connection between things that don’t obviously belong together.

"Ottoman and Robot shouldn’t go together. That’s exactly the point."

The studio is called Ottoman Robot because of two obsessions that have been with me as long as I can remember: a deep love of Ottoman and Turkish history, and a genuine, slightly embarrassing passion for robots. I have a large collection of them, vintage and modern. The name is a collision of those two worlds, and it says something about how I approach everything I make.

The Work

Over two decades I have created music videos, explainers, commercials, branded content, and large-scale installations. The work has shown up at Times Square, the Las Vegas Sphere, the Cannes Film Festival, on broadcast television, and on corporate stages around the world.

I have been on set while Snoop Dogg danced in front of a green screen. I have animated graffiti art for the NFL on the most sophisticated display technology ever built. I have helped the American Cancer Society explain life-saving medical breakthroughs, and I have created curtain raisers for nuclear security conferences. The range is not an accident. It is the result of genuinely loving the problem of how to make something land, regardless of what that something is.

How I Work

Ottoman Robot is a boutique studio. That means every project gets my direct creative involvement, not a junior team working from a brief. When the scope calls for it, I bring in a trusted network of collaborators, designers, animators, and producers I have worked with for years. The result is boutique attention with the capability of a larger operation.

I work with agencies as a senior creative production partner, and directly with brands and organizations that need the thinking as much as the making.

We can help you with...

motion design for interactive media, music videos, NFTs or something I’ve never even thought of before.
