Behind the Scenes: A Motion Studio's Journey
Hello everyone, Ottoman Robot here, and today I'm thrilled to take you on a journey behind the scenes of our latest project: the first drop for the XO/Art Series at the sphere in Las Vegas, in collaboration with legendary graffiti artist Eric Haze for Super Bowl 24.
Commissioned by Beyond the Streets curator Roger Gastman, we embarked on a thrilling adventure to bring Haze's iconic typography and symbols to life on the spectacular digital canvas of the sphere. Our video was showcased every hour for 10 days leading up to the Super Bowl, paying homage to both Las Vegas and football in a mesmerizing display of creativity.
Working on the sphere presented a unique challenge for us. As many of you may know, the sphere is a breathtaking structure composed of millions of LED pucks, each housing a cluster of RGB LED diodes. With its massive dimensions and high-definition display capabilities, it offered us a canvas unlike any other we had worked with before.
The journey began with a thorough onboarding process by the sphere team, guiding us through the technical aspects and project flow. Armed with an interactive real-time pre-visualization environment in Unreal Engine, we were able to preview and adjust our content with precision, ensuring a seamless experience on the sphere.
Our creative process involved meticulous planning and experimentation. We started with an After Effects template, simulating views of the exosphere throughout Las Vegas to ensure our video would resonate with audiences from various vantage points. The review process, divided into three phases, allowed us to fine-tune our content in collaboration with the sphere team, ensuring alignment with technical parameters and creative vision.
One of the most exhilarating aspects of the project was leveraging motion dynamics to bring our animation to life. With the help of Motion Boutique's Newton plugin, we achieved stunning effects, including parallax motion and dynamic interactions between elements on the canvas.
Each transition and scene presented its own set of challenges and opportunities for innovation. From typography reveals to playful icon interactions, we pushed the boundaries of creativity to deliver a captivating visual experience for viewers.
However, no project is without its hurdles. We encountered technical complexities and design considerations, particularly in ensuring seamless transitions across the spherical canvas. Through trial and error, we refined our approach, leveraging Newton's capabilities and manual adjustments to achieve the desired outcome.
In the end, the result was a testament to collaboration, innovation, and perseverance. Our video, rendered in stunning 5K resolution, graced the sphere with Haze's iconic artwork, captivating audiences in the heart of Las Vegas.
As we reflect on this journey, we're reminded of the power of creativity to transcend boundaries and inspire audiences around the world. We hope this behind-the-scenes glimpse into our process has been insightful and inspiring, sparking ideas for your own creative endeavors.
Thank you for joining us on this adventure, and if you have any questions or thoughts, we'd love to hear from you in the comments below. Until next time, stay inspired and keep creating!
